REPORT: After WWE-Netflix Deal, Tony Khan and AEW Might Also Move to Streaming Giant

On Tuesday, AEW received positive news, not unlike WWE, by securing a renewed deal with Warner Bros Discovery for its television agreement. As they continue to ascend in the wrestling realm, this development suggests a potential shift in their televised programming direction. 

It marks the five years since their establishment. Following the recent WWE-Netflix deal, a report hints at Tony Khan and AEW exploring possibilities with another streaming giant. Let’s see who the new streaming company is.

As many fans know in a significant development, WWE has inked a deal with Netflix, moving Monday Night Raw to the streaming service in January 2025. Additionally, WWE secured broadcast deals for NXT and SmackDown with the USA Network and the CW Network.

AEW, since its 2019 launch, has been partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery for television coverage on TBS and TNT. Currently negotiating a contract extension, AEW has been a prime-time attraction, showcasing stars like Ricky Starks, MJF, and Darby Allin. Amidst WWE’s groundbreaking move to Netflix, Wrestling Observer’s Andrew Zarian hinted at a potential shift for AEW.

He said, “Since we are on the topic of TV and Streaming rights. A source mentioned to me that is very possible for AEW to become a cable/streaming hybrid show. Much like how the NBA simulcasts on TNT and Max.” Sources suggest AEW might be evolving into a cable/streaming hybrid show, aligning with the changing landscape.

The recent AEW Dynamite episode exceeded expectations in viewership, earning the top spot and surprising many, including Dave Meltzer. AEW Dynamite outperformed WWE’s NXT in Canada, marking a notable shift. The main event, where Samoa Joe defended his AEW World Championship against Hook, likely contributed to the success.

Tony Khan’s winning formula, showcased in this episode, hints at a potential shift in the wrestling landscape. The consistent application could position AEW as a long-term contender challenging WWE’s dominance.
