She went on to her Twitter account to pay an emotional and heartfelt tribute to her late trainer, who passed away unexpectedly on September 4. He was just 35. Her friend was a professional wrestler from Dublin, Ireland. He and Lynch were close friends and trained together in Ireland when they were young.

He was also a Bohemian FC (an Irish soccer team) volunteer and thus he was a familiar face to anyone who followed the club.

Dean Merton was one of the first to find out about Becky Lynch’s WWE chance

The last few weeks have been tough for those associated with the pro wrestling fraternity. Following the death of legend Terry Funk, the news of Bray Wyatt’s shocking demise sent fans further into mourning. And now another name associated with WWE star Becky Lynch has passed away.

After the sudden demise of her old friend on Monday, Lynch drafted a beautiful message and shared it on her X (formerly known as Twitter) profile. She wrote she knew how special Dean Merton was and referred to him as her “pal“. Highlighting his best virtues, she said that she could talk to him about anything.

Originally from Ireland, both Lynch and Merton would train together in the gym. Although the temperature of the gym would be freezing cold, they would enjoy working out together. Lynch highlighted how close they were as she mentioned he was one of the first people she informed about her WWE tryout.

Lynch wrote, “My pal. I wish you knew how special you were. You were kind and genuine and talented and hilarious. I could talk to you about anything. I’m going to miss you. When I got my tryout you were one of the first people I told. I’d pick you up and we’d drive to Bray together, talking about life and wrestling and CrossFit.” Lynch capped off her heartwarming goodbye note by writing about how much she is going to miss him and his jokes.

She added she would certainly not miss working out with him because he would ‘always kill’ her while exercising. The tweet further read, “I’ll miss our chats and your jokes. I won’t miss working out with you cause you always killed me. Love you buddy. I’m going to miss you. Rest in Peace.”

Apart from Lynch, another WWE superstar was also close to Merton and had trained him during his early days in the pro wrestling circuit.

Finn Balor gave Dean Merton wrestling lessons

Just like Lynch, Finn Balor also wrestled in Ireland before coming to WWE in the USA. During that time, while Merton traveled with Lynch, he also received training from WWE Grand Slam Champion, Finn Balor. Merton has been wrestling since the early 2000s and had extensive in-ring experience spanned over the course of 18 years.

He wrestled for Over The Top wrestling, ICW in Scotland, Irish Whip Wrestling, NWA Ireland, No Limit Wrestling, Ulster Championship Wrestling, Fight Factory Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Ulster, Insane Championship Wrestling, Westside Xtreme Wrestling, Phoenix Wrestling, Discovery Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Elite, Pro Wrestling ZERO1, CHIKARA and wXw in Germany.

He was a lifetime fan, long-term member, and volunteer for the Bohemian Football Club. He also went by other names, ‘Alexander Dean’ and ‘Sean South’. His family members haven’t publicly revealed the cause of his death yet.
