In a heart-wrenching blow to the world of wrestling, the month of August has emerged as a somber period with the passing of yet another legendary figure. In the wake of the deaths of Bray Wyatt and Terry Funk, the demise of another wrestling legend hit fans hard a few days ago. Credited as being the oldest known professional wrestler in the world at 95, ‘Honest Abe’ played a crucial part in the two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s pro wrestling career.

After missing out on making it to the 1956 Olympics, the New Zealand native chose to seriously pursue his true love: wrestling. In a career that spanned more than 20 years, he wrestled across Europe, Asia and North America. The former NWA Florida World Tag Team Champion has wrestled in a staggering 8000 matches throughout his career. Jacobs infamously said once “In wrestling you have to be able to get heat, and you do that by getting the other guy over at the right time.” Staying true to his principles, Abe put Flair over in their match as the WWE legend began his ascend to greatness.
