Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode made a huge statement a couple nights ago on SmackDown when they defeated The Street Profits to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. This is Roode & Ziggler’s second Tag Team Championship reign as a team and has come almost two years after they won their first Championship together – the Raw Tag Team Championship.

After winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championships on SmackDown this week, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler’s happiness knew no bounds. One half of the new tag team champions, Robert Roode took to Twitter and even compared himself and Ziggler to the legendary WWE Hall of Fame Tag Team – The Hart Foundation.

Roode didn’t name drop The Hart Foundation, but his way of putting it across was subtle and nice. Roode and Ziggler wore pink tights when they won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Probably a real tribute to The Hart Foundation? Quite possible!

What’s next for the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions?

Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler are two tremendous athletes. They both are workhorses and we’ve seen what they bring to the table in their singles run. Yes, some would say Ziggler and Roode are losing themselves as singles competitors, but given the lack of genuine Tag Teams WWE has, these two could really lead the division.

The Street Profits will invoke their rematch clause and we might see a match at the Royal Rumble or on an episode of SmackDown before it, but Roode and Ziggler definitely won’t drop the titles so soon.

If Shinsuke Nakamura isn’t a future contender for Roman Reigns‘ Universal Championship, he and Cesaro could step up to Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.

The other tag teams on SmackDown are Otis and Chad Gable, Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake (King Corbin’s Knights), and Rey/Dominik Mysterio & Murphy. It’s not really a stacked division, so it’ll be exciting to see what WWE has in store for us regarding the SmackDown Tag Team Championship picture.

Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler are great competitors, and whoever steps up to them won’t have it easy getting the titles off them. As far as The Hart Foundation comparison is concerned, we think we’ll let Roode and Ziggler shine a bit more as a team before affirming that.
