SummerSlam 2023 saw The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns‘ title reign almost come to an end. However, after a betrayal from Jimmy Uso saw Reigns emerge supreme. Prior to this, Reigns’ title reign had once again come to a dangerous situation at Elimination Chamber 2023.

At the PLE in Montreal earlier this year, fans saw Roman Reigns go into battle with the hometown hero Sami Zayn. Despite having the home advantage, Zayn would fail to capitalize on it, and fail to bring home the title. Recently, Zayn would open up about that encounter.

What did Sami Zayn claim about losing the World titles to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2023?

The beginning of 2023 saw Sami Zayn rise as one of the top guys in the company. As one of the most over superstars on the roster, WWE still failed to capitalize on his momentum and instead handed him the tag-team titles with Kevin Owens.

Recently, while speaking to Ryan Satin on his podcast, Zayn opened up on the loss in Montreal, and claimed himself as not being the “chosen guy”. The former honorary Uce seemed devastated while stating that, but he continued speaking hard facts.

Zayn said, “It was a little hard, you know, if you want the truth. It was a little hard because it’s, and I don’t think I’m being controversial when saying this, but I’m not the chosen guy, you know obviously. I’ve been handed a lot of opportunities and I’ve delivered on a lot of those opportunities throughout my time in the company and I’m grateful for all of it.”

The former NXT Champion further continued, “I don’t have bad things to say about anything involving that story, but if you’re asking me was it a tough pill to swallow to come that close and not quite make it? I’d be lying if I said no, it didn’t bother me at all. For sure there was a part of me that had problems digesting that.” Zayn stated that despite performing to the best of his capabilities with the opportunities he received, he never rose to the top as the main guy.

Despite fans wanting Zayn to come out as the champion, Triple H never saw Sami Zayn as the top guy, and thus maybe the results came out in The Tribal Chief’s favor.

As per reports, Triple H never saw Zayn as the top guy in the company

Back in January, when reports started building up about Sami Zayn potentially turning on Roman Reigns, Dave Meltzer shockingly reported Triple H not seeing eye to eye with Sami Zayn as a main eventer in the company. Meltzer stated that the company did not see Zayn as the ‘face of the company’.

Meltzer’s point came out true when WWE failed to capitalize on Zayn’s rising hot momentum and passed on him for the titles. Instead, they would shift him over to have a feud with The Usos and defeat them at WrestleMania 38 to take home the tag-team titles.
