Why WWE stripped the title off of Sami Zayn

Zayn had to vacate the title because he was unable to participate in live sessions. WWE stripped him of the title and held the tournament to crown the new Champion. The tournament lasted across numerous SmackDown episodes

After getting robbed of the title, Sami Zayn was vocal throughout the tournament on Twitter. He chose to stay at home and decided to take care of his health during this hard time. This may have left him vulnerable to relentless flak from fans and from within the WWE as well.

If Zayn does come back he will surely be given a shot at the Intercontinental Championship. However, the chances of him being the champ again seem rather bleak.
