“They Started Singing Kingdom”: Cody Rhodes Reflects on His “Uplifting” Experience in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel

WWE recently had its esteemed roster fight before the crowd in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel 2023. The annual PLE is one of the most anticipated events in WWE, and its 2023 event was highly successful. While the fans had their fill of fun and entertainment, WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes said that he enjoyed working in front of the audience in Saudi Arabia as well.

The American Nightmare secured a huge victory against Señor MITB Damian Priest in his Crown Jewel matchup. Speaking about the experience that followed, Cody Rhodes recently revealed some very touching details in a recent podcast appearance. In fact, Rhodes said that the crowd did something special for him during his entrance.

Cody Rhodes is one of the most versatile, popular, and experienced wrestlers on the WWE roster. The American Nightmare has wrestled with several different pro wrestling outfits and has been to several locations for events.

Despite this, he still had a very unique and joyous experience in Riyadh. The wrestler was recently invited to the ‘Gabby AF Podcast’ where he narrated how his post-event conference went.

According to Cody Rhodes, “They started singing Kingdom. They started singing the lyrics, and they were the type that sing the entire song, versus just the one part that most people will sing. And it was really uplifting in a sense like ‘Oh. They’re watching.’” 

Rhodes said that he initially didn’t know what to say to the crowd, as every audience is different. But, seeing the crowd sing his entrance song in its entirety allowed him to gel better with his fans. This incredible experience filled the star with a deep sense of joy, knowing that the crowd was willing to make as many efforts as he was. 

 

Cody Rhodes also revealed that he found out that the people in Riyadh have been wanting WWE to come to their doorstep for a long time. In fact, he said that several fans even directly told him what are the things they want to see in matches.

The growing market for WWE in Saudi Arabia

Cody Rhodes mentioned in the same interview that several fans openly voiced out the kind of matches they wish to see from WWE. He also noted that these fans were very passionate and were using the names of wrestlers and their signature moves.

The American Nightmare said that the people of Saudi Arabia have always yearned for a product like WWE, but never got one. However, each time WWE visits the country for Crown Jewel, he sees more fans than the previous edition. 

He said, “A small meet and greet, um, right before, uh, the show, and all these little kiddos just saying ‘yeet.’ Uh, talking about what they wanted to see that night, talking about people’s finishing moves. It’s really nice to see a market, you know, from a business perspective, a market develops that way. Uh, it means that the next time we go, they’re even more attuned to it.” Cody Rhodes said that while this is really good from a marketing and business perspective.
