The October 10th episode of WWE NXT had some exciting moments. A lot of stars were seen in the episode, including LA Knight as the guest referee for Dominik Mysterio vs. Ilja Dragunov. Apart from that, Asuka, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Paul Heyman, and Rhea Ripley also made an appearance. But the one that stole the spotlight was the return of The Undertaker.

A picture of LA Knight and The Undertaker has been shared on social media. But the fact that both the stars were at a point connected in the past makes it more interesting.

The photo was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a fan account. The picture is from the backstage of NXT, hours before the show began. LA Knight is seen shaking hands with The Phenom in the iconic picture. In the background, Shawn Micheals is also present, but it looks like he might not be part of their conversation. Both the stars are seen smiling at each other with a hint of appreciation and respect.

The connecting link between the stars is Percy Pringle, aka Paul Bearer. Bearer is a well-known pro wrestling manager. He was the man behind many stars, such as Kane, Big Van Vader, Mankind, and The Undertaker. Knight met him during his Eli Drake days at the TNA. At the time he met him, Bearer had left The Undertaker. He is mostly credited with developing the mysterious aura of The Deadman.

Paul Bearer is known as one of the legendary managers and a master storyteller. He had spun many stories for the 58-year-old star. But the one from 1997 took the rivalry between The Undertaker and Kane to a whole new level.

The Undertaker’s biggest enemy

During the 1996 SummerSlam event, The Undertaker had a gruesome fight with Mankind, both of whom were managed by Bearer. The only way to win this match was to secure an urn from the manager. When The Undertaker knelt before him, requesting to give him the urn, Bearer betrayed him and thus began their enmity.

Bearer was also responsible for giving birth to The Undertaker’s biggest enemy, Kane. Also managed by the legendary manager, Kane made his debut in the summer of 1997. During this time, Bearer tried everything to bring The Undertaker down. But when nothing seemed to work, Bearer decided to bring in The Undertaker’s long-estranged brother.

As the frustration began to mount on Bearer, he decided to reveal one of the biggest secrets from The Undertaker’s past. He revealed to the world that it was The Undertaker who had started the fire which killed his parents. Apart from that, he also revealed that his brother was left disfigured and is still alive, looking for vengeance. This led its way to Badd Blood, a PLE which was held in October 1997. It is still considered a fresh and new way of introducing a new character and a new storyline in the world of professional wrestling.

The relationship between Knight and Bearer was much less dramatic. Though Bearer managed Knight for a time, this didn’t amount to something as great as what Bearer had with The Undertaker. Especially as Bearer, unfortunately, passed away in 2013, due to cardiac arrest.
