The ‘Modern Day Maharaja’, Jinder Mahal is back on the main roster. Not only that but he’s getting another push. Is it 2017-2018 all over again? No, it’s 2024 and yes, he’s getting another push. Since his return at the Day 1 Edition of WWE RAW, Mahal has had a promo with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. He’s even got a title match next week. But why is he getting a push now? Let’s explore the reasons.

Mahal had his first push in 2017 At Backlash where Mahal faced Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight title and won the title for his first reign.

When Mahal returned on the Day 1 Edition, fans believed it was for The Rock’s segment. However, Mahal returned on the second episode of Monday Night RAW to confront Seth Rollins. This made fans question what was going on and why Mahal was getting another push. Here are some of the reasons.

The first reason was the segment with The Rock. While it made The Rock the babyface coming out to deal with the anti-American heel, this could be hinting at a face-off between the two. While not many fans are excited to see Johnson vs. Mahal, this could be good for storytelling. Ahead of facing Roman Reigns, the two could have a match where Mahal looks strong and Johnson wins.

Triple H has always praised Mahal for his work ethic. Back in 2017 during his first push, Hunter stated in multiple interviews that Mahal was a great worker in the WWE. This showed his belief in him despite the WWE Universe not wanting him as Champion. This could be the second reason why the WWE has decided to push Mahal. It also adds diversity to the title race.

The third and final reason could be to pander to the Indian audience. Knowing the success of the WWE Superstar Spectacle which took place in Hyderabad, India on September 8, 2023, the WWE could be planning on an expansion. A huge chunk of WWE fans hail from India and having Mahal represent the WWE could be a great way of gaining a new audience.

If the push is to be taken seriously, Mahal will have to win a title first. This could be a main title or something smaller. They could pit Mahal against Rollins but that would hurt the CM Punk storyline if he wins.

The only possibility is for Mahal to win something like the United States title or even the Intercontinental title before winning the big gold belt.

One take at a time

My passion for professional wrestling began when I saw Kane ripping the Hell in a Cell door off in the iconic 1997 match. I used to enjoy watching WWE re-runs at 5 in the evening when I got home from school. It was sort of a ritual for me.
