Jim Cornette may have retired from wrestling, but he is still as popular as he ever was. As a manager and promoter for professional wrestling, Cornette was renowned for his brilliant mind. Even to this day, Cornette continues to offer insights into what is happening right now in the pro wrestling industry.

However, Cornette doesn’t work for any wrestling promotions at present. Although he is long gone from the industry, he still presents his strong views on many matters in pro wrestling. That said, AEW star Matt Hardy took a dig at Jim Cornette for not giving credit to the Elite.

During the final stages of the match, Hangman Adam Page launched himself to deliver a buckshot lariat at Evil Uno. But Uno pushed the referee between the duo, averting disaster. With the ref distracted, Evil Uno hit Page with a vicious low blow, allowing Claudio Castagnoli to take a cheap shot at Page. Ultimately, Evil Uno pinned Adam Pade to pick up the win for Dark Order.

Taking to Twitter, Matt Hardy responded to a fan who argued that The Elite must get the credit they deserve from the fans. Hardy chimed in and thrashed Jim Cornette for hating on AEW and the Elite.

He stated, “Between this & the toxic Cornette cult, these guys don’t get the adoration that they truly deserve. The diehard Elite fans are phenomenal & get why they’re special, but there’s a huge chunk of fans that fail to give them the credit they deserve. Give these guys their flowers.”

Jim Cornette has been vocal about his hatred for The Elite’s Kenny Omega in the past on his podcast, Jim Cornette Experience. Wrestling fans are also well aware of his detestation of AEW. Nevertheless, Matt Hardy gave credit where credit was due. Cornette is seen as one of the outspoken minds in wrestling and has never been shy to voice his opinion.

Jim Cornette once threatened to kill the last person anyone would want to mess with, Brock Lesnar. Despite having a lengthy career in WWE, Cornette was fired in 2005.

Why was Jim Cornette fired from WWE?

During his time in WWE in the early 2000s, Jim Cornette worked closely with Vince McMahon. He was recognized for his involvement in the upper management of the Stamford-based company. Cornette was even tasked with running WWE’s developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling.

In 2005, Cornette flew off the handle and slapped Santino Marella for something trivial. During an OVW taping, Santino Marella apparently laughed at The Boogeyman instead of expressing fear, in what was a major misunderstanding. This did not sit well with Cornette, and so Marella was called backstage and slapped a few times by Cornette.

After WWE management caught wind of the incident, Cornette was suspended before he was ultimately sent packing. Although Cornette was released unceremoniously, he did not harbor any ill will toward Vince McMahon. Nonetheless, as controversial as Cornette is, no one can deny that he helped prepare some of the biggest stars in OVW, like John Cena and Brock Lesnar, who eventually became megastars.
