WWE is a company that rarely opens the forbidden doors between itself and other wrestling promotions. But it seems that the Stamford-based company will soon overcome this trend and allow a rather open environment for one of their NXT stars.

AJPW recently announced a potential partnership with WWE. In a promo that the Japanese company posted on its Twitter account, we can see the president talking with WWE’s management on a call. The caption of the tweet also gives away the plans of the company.

Although several top wrestling stars have left the American promotion to work in the Japanese wrestling business, this time around, one of the NXT stars won’t have to leave WWE behind.

AJPW took to Twitter and posted a video of President Tsuyoki Fukuda on a call with the WWE management. He seemed to be discussing introducing a NXT star at his promotion. We can assume that Triple H and Nick Khan have already approved of this collaboration. Fukuda says, “We at AJPW want a strong superstar from your brand NXT.” He says that the brand hopes to put out a Triple Crown match and lists the two AJPW stars that will be competing against the NXT star.

While the tweet doesn’t reveal the star’s name, the forbidden door opportunity seems to be opening now and AJPW has been dropping several hints about an “assassin” infiltrating the promotion. As of now, only one star seems to be getting this benefit, but the crossover may become more prominent and common later on.

WWE may indulge in more ‘forbidden door’ opportunities in the near future

Apart from this announced possible collaboration, there is room for one more partnership, but this time, it would be with TNA. WWE’s parent company Endeavor has recently partnered with the rival promotion to release TNA+, an on-demand subscription that will be distributed by WME itself.

This presents the two promotions with an opportunity to carefully plant crossovers in between to keep their fanbase excited and on edge.
