Nobody knew who Oscar Rubio was until he donned his trademark mask. Now one of the biggest assets of WWE, Rey Mysterio, is someone the young generation of stars looks up to. The promotion tried to recreate the success he attained by finding a successor to fill in his shoes. But WWE failed when they tried it with Sincara or Kalisto. However, WWE might have unknowingly found Rey Msyterio’s successor, and even the Lucha Libre himself has acknowledged the rising star.

Successor to Rey Mysterio found

Currently, on the WWE roster, there are three luchadors. One is the two-time Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. The other two are Dragon Lee of SmackDown and A-Kid of NXT. In an interview with the MMA Hour, the Mexican superstar said that he has been following Lee for quite some time now. He even shared that he believes The Boy Wonder has been growing since his days at NXT. Mysterio further added, “He has a lot of potential to grow and be his own person. I’ve always said it’s very hard to duplicate someone.” He also believes that when Dragon Lee is ready, he will grow into his own version of Rey Mysterio and not an exact copy of him.

Dragon Lee has witnessed a meteoric rise in demand in recent times. The star had faced off against Dominik Mysterio for his North American NXT Championship title. Even though he succumbed to defeat and incurred the wrath of Rhea Ripley, he received applause for his performance in the ring.

One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let’s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
