With each passing week, Dominik Mysterio is picking up more and more heel heat in WWE. So far, one of the biggest high points of Dom’s career as a heel was when he slapped his father, Rey Mysterio. But on the latest edition of Raw, Dom reached ultimate heel status after slapping Cody Rhodes and subsequently laughed in his face. He further added insult to injury backstage.

Monday Night Raw saw the segment between Dominik and Cody Rhodes take a personal turn. During the promo, Dominik called Cody Rhodes a “deadbeat dad”. In response, Cody fired back and called Dominik a “mistake” of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. The insensitive comment instigated Dominik to slap Cody Rhodes.

The American Nightmare stood unable to retaliate due to Rhea Ripley protecting Dom. The drama didn’t end there though. Backstage, Dominik mocked Cody Rhodes’ iconic catchphrase.

Dominik mocks Cody Rhodes’ iconic catchphrase

Cody Rhodes’ fans would agree that the best part of his entrance is the “woah” cheer. You’d be lying if the cheer doesn’t give you goosebumps. That is probably the only time non-Cody Rhodes fans shout along and cheer for him. After Dominik slapped Cody Rhodes, he made his way backstage and had a whale of a time mocking his iconic catchphrase.

Although Dominik is one of the most hated villains in the game, he is admired for his humor. Backstage, Dominik came in through the curtains and shouted, “Woah! I slapped Cody Rhodes.”

As incensed as Cody Rhodes must be, watching Dom’s antics would have left Rhodes unsure whether to laugh or be angrier.

Nevertheless, Dominik has certainly started something. And only time will reveal how Cody Rhodes intends to exact his revenge for the slap. After being humiliated in the ring, it is highly unlikely that Cody Rhodes is going to take it in stride and move on.

Nevertheless, did you know Cody Rhodes’ iconic “Woah” cheer took years to catch on?

When did Cody Rhodes’ iconic “woah” catchphrase originate?

After Cody Rhodes left Vince McMahon’s company in 2016, he began carving out an impressive career in the Indies. Rhodes further wrestled for other promotions such as Ring of Honor, All In, Impact Wrestling, and AEW before returning to WWE.

Rhodes used the same entrance music everywhere he went after his release from WWE. However, the “woah” catchphrase did not pick up until he made his return to WWE in mid-2022.

Wrestling journalist Chris Van Vliet noted that it took six years for the fans to catch on to the “Woah” catchphrase. Vliet also pointed out that the catchphrase became a staple of Cody Rhodes’ entrance after he added a gesture that goes with the sound.
