Becoming a parent is a wonderful feeling in the life of an individual. And it is delightful when people want to share this happiness with others. This was the case when former WWE superstar Tye Dillinger, now known as Shawn Spears and his wife Cassie Lee, who also wrestled in WWE as Peyton Royce, announced the birth of their first child on January 17. Cassie Lee posted an adorable photo of their newborn son on her Instagram and it led to a flood of wishes from many WWE stars as well as wrestlers from other promotions. In August last year, Lee announced that she was pregnant while in November Spears revealed the baby’s name on “The Sessions” with AEW talent Renee Paquette.

Spears and Cassie Lee met when they were in NXT during the black-and-gold era of the brand. The couple got married in 2019 and announced the birth of their first child a few days back. Cassie Lee, who formed the one half of the tag team The Ilconics in WWE, took to Instagram to share the photo of their newborn with the caption, “Austin Jay 1/17/23.”

Shortly afterward, a number of current and former WWE stars and a few AEW stars commented on the post and congratulated the new parents. Becky Lynch, Mercedes Varnado aka Sasha Banks, and Nikki Bella were among those who joined in to send their best wishes to the couple.

Alexa Bliss wrote, “Congrats!,” Candice LeRae who herself gave birth last year commented, “Aaaaah!!!! Yay! Congrats to you both!!!!!!.” Saraya, formerly known as Paige wrote, “Congrats!!!!.” Another former WWE star Mercedes Varnado wished the couple and wrote, “Congratulations.” 

Becky Lynch, who became a mother a couple of years ago, also commented,“❤️❤️❤️”.

WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella commented, “Aww yay!! Congratulations!!!”, while her sister Brie Bella wrote, she was happy for them. She commented, “Congratulations!!!! So happy for you both!!!.”

Renee Paquette, on whose podcast, Spears revealed the name of the child welcomed the newborn. She wrote, “Congratulations!! ❤️❤️❤️ welcome to the world little man!”. The wishes kept coming in with current WWE star Emma, saying she can’t wait to meet the young Austin.

Emma wrote, “Omg!!!! Can’t wait to meet Austin!”. WWE TV host Cathy Kelly also shared the sentiment and wrote, “ahhh congrats!! can’t wait to meet baby austin.” 

Natalya also wished the new parents and wrote, ” Congrats!!!!!”

Shawn Spears and Cassie Lee’s wrestling career

Spears wrestled under the name Tye Dillinger from 2013 to 2019 in WWE and enjoyed popularity with the ‘Perfect Ten’ gimmick. Despite not winning any major tiles, he was over with the crowd due to his gimmick and charisma. He then joined AEW in 2019 and feuded with Cody Rhodes straightaway. Spears also became part of MJF’s Pinnacle stable but hasn’t wrestled much since last year.

As for Cassie Lee, the 30-year-old star teamed up with Billie Kay and the two formed the team The llconics in WWE. They won the Women’s Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 35, before their release in 2021. They went to Impact Wrestling and won Knockouts Tag Team titles as they rebranded The Ilnspiration. In April last year, both Lee and her in-ring partner Billie Kay announced their retirement.

The couple now starts a new chapter in their life as they become parents. We congratulate them on the birth of their first child and wish them all the best for the future.
