‘What a Waste of a Champion’: Fans Divided as Rhea Ripley Sets an Unpromising Milestone Just Days Ahead of SummerSlam 2023

SummerSlam is just around the corner and Rhea Ripley doesn’t have an opponent yet. It looks like WWE came up short on selecting an opponent for her at the marquee summer spectacle. Therefore, she won’t be having any matches at the Premium Live Event on August 5 in Detroit, Michigan.

Well, some fans are perfectly okay with the Women’s World Champion not fighting at the upcoming PLE. But many fans expressed discontentment with her not being on the card. Explore with us as we look at how fans reacted to Ripley’s non-participation in SummerSlam this year.

Rhea Ripley earns an unwanted accolade

A wrestling fan on Twitter shared a tweet that mentions that Ripley will be the first Women’s Champion in over a decade that will not have a match at SummerSlam. The last time a female World Champion didn’t wrestle at SummerSlam was when Divas Champion Layla didn’t defend her title at the 2012 event. Hence, Ripley will set an unpromising milestone in a few days.

As a champion, the WWE universe expects the title holders to prove their worthiness by stepping inside the ring, especially at premium live events. Considering the fact that Ripley’s matches are always action-packed, some fans were really disappointed that they will not get to see her at SummerSlam this year.

The fans may have to wait till September to see Ripley in PLE action

Clearly, the fans are not happy with WWE, making them wait to see the Woman’s World Champion inside the PLE ring again. Let’s have a look at some of the comments to find out what they had to say.

It seems like Ripley’s next challenger might be Raquel Rodriguez. But it isn’t likely that they will face off against each other at SummerSlam. The chances are that the two female juggernauts will clash inside the ring at the Payback premium live event, which will take place in September.

Not all fans are dissatisfied with WWE’s decision to leave Ripley out of my this year’s SummerSlam match card. They believe she doesn’t need to wrestle regularly to prove herself as the true champion.

Also, SummerSlam this month will not feature other top female superstars like Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus. It will be interesting to see how much reception the event will get without there being these top female wrestlers.
