On the December 8 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Charlotte Flair injured herself during her match against Asuka. After the match ended, medical personnel had to carry her out backstage. It was later revealed that she had suffered a knee injury that would put her out of the ring for 9 months. With that said, let’s look at five superstars who have received a similar fate to Flair in the past, costing them months of recovery time.

Seth Rollins

In 2015, Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury that forced him out of action for several months. At a WWE live event in Dublin, Ireland, he injured his knee during a match against Kane. He flipped off the turnbuckle to deliver a powerbomb to his opponent, but unfortunately, his knee popped.

It was later disclosed that he suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and torn meniscus. He returned months later at the 2016 WWE Extreme Rules.

Bayley

Just like Rollins, Bayley also suffered a knee injury during a live event. It was this year in Salisbury, Maryland. It happened during a fatal four-way match for the WWE Women’s Championship. Other contenders in the match were Asuka, who was the champion, Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair. The injury was serious and the referee had to throw up an X sign. The medical staff immediately rushed to ringside, checked on her, and took her backstage.

Shawn Michaels

Over the years, Shawn Michaels has suffered many knee injuries, probably more than any other wrestler. He had a torn ACL in 1990, a career-threatening knee injury in 1997, a torn meniscus in 2004, and a severe knee injury that lasted from 2006 through to 2007.

A typical knee injury means 7 to 9 months of being out of action, but HBK would only give around 2 to 3 months for his knee injuries to heal and recover. This is why a knee injury was persistent throughout the length of his career. This is also evident even now, despite Michaels being out of the ring for a while, as his TV appearances are marked by a limp that Michaels suffers from.

Tomasso Ciampa

Tomasso Ciampa also became a victim to a ruptured ACL at a live event before NXT TakeOver: Chicago in May 2017. He was out for around a year because of the injury, which occurred on his right knee. Following the injury, he successfully underwent surgery to deal with the effects of the injury and returned to the ring in January 2018, where he notably attacked Johnny Gargano with a crutch.

Jimmy Uso

Next up on the list is Jimmy Uso. Three years ago, Uso suffered a knee injury at WrestleMania 36 in 2002. During a ladder match at Mania, he tore his ACL, wrestling against Kofi Kingston and John Morrison in a triple-threat match, causing him to go on a long hiatus.

Talking about knee injuries, how can we forget Rey Mysterio, who is currently out of action because of one? Last month in November, he successfully underwent knee surgery in Bermingham. He is currently in recovery and will have a hiatus period before returning to action. What do you think about wrestlers suffering knee injuries?
