Excitement engulfed the atmosphere in Las Vegas as the WrestleMania 40 kickoff show aired from the T-Mobile Arena. One could say it was electric, with major announcements yet to be made. One of the biggest announcements was regarding the main event of the upcoming WrestleMania. However, Pat McAfee found his efforts to be in vain after he encouraged the crowd to cheer for Dwayne Johnson.

The WWE Universe has been on an anti-Rock streak since Cody Rhodes handed him his spot on the main event of WrestleMania 40. Tonight was no different.

It is easy to see why McAfee would praise Johnson. Since his gimmick reinvention in the late 90s, he’s been a vital part of the WWE. Only a handful of stars may not credit Johnson for their love and passion for the business. However, when WWE fans hate someone, they hate them with a burning passion.

As McAfee on the panel tried to talk about the most pressing topic at hand, the main event of WrestleMania, he uttered Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s name. Before the show, Johnson had been on the McAfee show, where he discussed a few things.

While the fans began to boo, he tried to cover it up by saying, “A man who is on the Mt. Rushmore of this business, this company.” However, with all the effort McAfee tried to put in, nothing could compare to the booming “We Want Cody” chants. This silenced McAfee, who changed the topic.

This could all be in revolt for Johnson’s statement against the Rhodes supporters. In the interview with McAfee, Johnson had said, “Love Cody, love his passionate fans, then there are the other passionate Cody fans, and they’re called ‘Cody crybabies’.” While fans are willing to tolerate Johnson in the main event against Reigns, they will not tolerate his insults.

Nevertheless, the former NFL star was in the minority when he clamored for a Johnson vs Reigns match at WrestleMania 40 instead of Rhodes getting to finish his story.

McAfee wanted Reigns vs. Johnson

After the booing subsided, McAfee claimed he wanted to see the Samoan cousins dish it out. Big E agreed with him, while CM Punk had his own idea. Punk said he understood why the WWE was going with Johnson vs. Reigns; it was for the box office. The Voice of the Voiceless agreed to the fact that the marquee matchup between The Rock and Reigns would rake in more money than the Royal Rumble winner against Reigns.

However, the dynamic of the main event potentially changed when Johnson slapped Rhodes for talking about his family. This could be the first heel turn for The Brahman Bull in a long time and the fans loved it. This resulted in Triple H announcing Rhodes would be facing Reigns at WrestleMania 40. One take at a time

My passion for professional wrestling began when I saw Kane ripping the Hell in a Cell door off in the iconic 1997 match. I used to enjoy watching WWE re-runs at 5 in the evening when I got home from school. It was sort of a ritual for me.
