The debut of AEW’s third show, Collision, turned out to be nothing short of spectacular. The show marked the return of CM Punk. In the main event, a returning Punk teamed up with ‘The FTR’ and locked horns with Jay White, Juice Robinson, and Samoa Joe in a barn burner of a trios action.

One of the high points of the match that had the fans chanting at the top of their voice was when CM Punk came face-to-face with his old rival, Samoa Joe. Although ‘CMFTR’ emerged victorious over ‘Switchblade’, fans are clamoring to see more from Punk and Joe in the squared circle.

CM Punk and Samoa Joe know each other so well that both men got each other’s number. Their epic rivalry began in ROH in 2004. The duo collided in a historic trilogy of matches for the Ring of Honor World Championship. 2005 was the last time Punk and Joe went to war. After 6000-plus days, CM Punk and Samoa Joe had a moment in the ring before they locked up and exchanged chops and blows.

Although CM Punk pinned Robbinson to win his return match, his intense moment in the ring with his old foe portends a reignition of their time-honored feud going forward.

It’s worth noting that Samoa Joe has more victories over CM Punk. During their matches in Ring of Honor, The ‘Straight Edge’ superstar failed to dethrone the Samoan Submission Machine.

Nevertheless, CM Punk will have his shot at redemption, now that he and Joe are on the same show. We will have to wait and see how their rivalry develops in the days to come.
