Great news came in today for the fans of the pro wrestling promotion, WWE. The company has announced its new deal with the online streaming giant, Netflix. The deal which stands at approximately $5 billion and is 10 years long will be bringing WWE’s Red Brand, Raw to Netflix. WWE Raw is set to move to the streaming giant by January 2025. While fans are still trying to wrap their heads around this exciting news, there might still be something more for them to watch out for.

WWE & Netflix bring a surprise for fans

According to the reports by CNBC, fans will notice some changes in the scripting of the episodes. As per insider words, WWE will be scripting the events of the show to bypass the advertisement barriers. The report stated, “Matches will be scripted around commercial breaks to satisfy ad-free customers, who will see continued action from live matches that aren’t important to the outcome, such as a wrestler in a sustained headlock, according to a person familiar with the matter.” However, one thing worth noting is the privilege might be only for customers who have subscribed to the ad-free plan. Initially, Raw will be streamed in the U.S. Canada, U.K., and Latin America.

It has also been stated that Netflix will eventually stream SmackDown, NXT, and other Premium Live Events along with Raw outside of the United States, catering to the global audience. While WWE revealed this massive game-changing deal, there are internal reports that its competitor, AEW might not be quite behind in the race.

Amid the WWE Raw surprise, what is AEW planning?

As per insider sources, Tony Khan might be planning something for his promotion, AEW. There have been rumors that Khan has been eyeing Warner Bros Discovery-owned streaming platform, Max, as a possible home for the AEW shows. Now, there are words that Khan might move at full speed to make AEW a cable/streaming hybrid show.

AEW and Tony Khan might follow the same suit as that of the NBA. They simulcast their matches on TNT and Max. Apart from that, there are no reports that WWE might simulcast Raw. It would be interesting to see how WWE will cater to its audience, who are habitual to cable networks.
