WWE Legend Triple H Reveals Why He Never Boxed Mike Tyson For “Ludicrous Amount of Money”

It is no secret that in the “Monday Night War” era, WWE was suffering miserably. With WCW at his throat, Vince McMahon brought in Mike Tyson as a last resort. Reports say Triple H vs. Mike Tyson was on the cards. However, that match never took place.

Former WWE Champion and NXT Founder Triple H has now revealed why he and Tyson never faced each other one on one. In an interview with WWE.com (h/t TalkSport), ‘The Game’ said that it was all about the money at the end of the day.

“We were going to do six rounds. I don’t remember if it was going to be full boxing rules or whether I was wearing gloves. But it ended up being a deal where the whole thing just would have been a ludicrous amount of money, and it got pushed off.”

Due to his contributions in saving WWE, Tyson was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012. Triple H and Shawn Michaels inducted him.

Mike Tyson is a WWE Hall of Famer and had notable appearances with the company. When he first came to WWE, he was suspended from boxing for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear off. As TalkSports reports, Tyson was down to his last $150,000 before WWE called and signed a $3.5 million deal.

Even former WCW manager Eric Bishoff knew they were in trouble as they got the news.

“That was maybe in January of ’98, and then obviously when they used Mike Tyson as effectively as they did to set up Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Mr. McMahon character, then I really knew I was in deep s***, and I had to put the pedal to the metal. So that was a perfect example of using probably the perfect celebrity at that time in Mike Tyson.”

Since his debut, Mike Tyson made a series of appearances till WrestleMania 14, where he turned on D-Generation X and paired up with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.

Now that Tyson is out and fighting after a long break, we might as well see him fighting Triple H.
