Last weekend, Cody Rhodes emphatically won this year’s 30-Man Royal Rumble. Now he boldly declared his intent to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 40. Now the question arises: What about Dwayne Johnson and the rumored main event?

WWE introduced a potential twist on Raw as Seth Rollins proposed a WrestleMania 40 match against Cody Rhodes instead of a rematch with Roman Reigns. The resolution to this storyline may unfold in the upcoming SmackDown episode, according to Dave Meltzer. Rhodes is advertised to make his Mania decision during the episode.

He wrote in the ‘Wrestler Observer Newsletter’ that as of last week, Reigns vs. Rock was still under consideration. Meltzer stated, “As late as last week, Roman Reigns vs. The Rock was not out of play. The Rock wanted it and even said so in media interviews. It was said that he was heavily pushing for it. But at that point, as late as after the Rumble, the plan was for Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and to do Reigns vs. Rock at some point in the future.”

“Saudi Arabia was talked about for that match from a company standpoint with the idea of doing the match they had spent a year plus building toward, with the idea that perhaps having Reigns vs. Rock in Saudi Arabia would get the government to kick in more money both for the company and Rock. It also could be at next year’s Mania, but that would make many years in a row where that much was talked about for “next year’s Mania.”

While there is a lot of uncertainty around this match, could the Elimination Chamber also be a possibility for Johnson to face Reigns?

Could The Rock and Roman Reigns enter the ring in Perth, Australia?

There’s speculation about the possibility of ‘The Rock’ appearing at the Elimination Chamber premium live event in Perth, Australia. The city reportedly inquired about securing his presence. However, the question remains whether Johnson would agree to the idea or prefer a match with Reigns exclusively at WrestleMania.

Dwayne Johnson has expressed his belief that a Rock-Roman main event could anchor the biggest WrestleMania ever, and WWE is currently enjoying significant popularity.

WWE has not announced the dates for its two Saudi shows in 2024, but a Rock vs. Reigns match could fit into either window, preserving the Rhodes vs. Reigns storyline post-WrestleMania. The clarity on this potential scenario should emerge soon.
