Sami Zayn did not have an excellent start to the new year. Not only did he lose his beloved Intercontinental Championship on the last SmackDown of 2020, but also failed to become the top contender for the Universal Championship at the upcoming Royal Rumble this week.
While ‘the Great Liberator’ has argued how WWE is robbing him off of opportunities, his swift loss against Rey Mysterio in the Gauntlet match did not help his cause.
However, Zayn has come up with the ‘real reason’ why he lost. After the match, Zayn took to Twitter and explained how the referee started without his consent!

He felt thoroughly insulted as he said, “In 19 years, never had a ref ring the bell without consulting me first. Don’t worry, we got it all on film for our documentary. The conspiracy against Sami Zayn is real.”

However, Zayn soon dropped the idea because “the reality was too depressing. It’s like, man, this isn’t fun. We’re getting hit over the head with it too much nowadays anyway … It just wasn’t fun the way I had dreamt of it for years and years,” Sami concluded.
Sami lost to Bobby Lashley at Survivor Series, and that began his downfall. Since then, Zayn has adopted the ‘conspiracy’ angle to his character.
