“Extremely Difficult”: John McEnroe Raises Doubts Over Roger Federer’s Return at His Best

In 2020, Swiss Maestro Roger Federer underwent two knee surgeries. This forced him to end his season prematurely, something no one was happy about that. Now, many are wondering whether he will make a comeback. However, John McEnroe doesn’t seem too worried about this. He said, “You can’t put it past him to make a successful return next year because part of it is his love of the game and he just enjoys being out there so much.”
The American tennis legend went on to talk about where Roger might make his return, and said, “Presumably down in Australia, I guess that’s where he is probably going to come back, the courts suit him pretty well. I’m sure if he doesn’t feel like he’s capable of making a deep run, he’s not going to play, he’s no reason to so I would presume he is going to be coming back at a high level but it’s just hard to imagine at 39 you could be as close to what you were, that would be extremely difficult to do.”

Currently at the 2020 French Open, Rafael Nadal has the opportunity to equal Federer’s record by winning his 20th Slam. The Swiss maestro can’t do anything to stop him. But he can take the lead in the race next year at the Australian Open. Federer has won six titles at the event, the last of which came way back in 2018.
