Severino is a wild card in this winter’s free agent market; he turns 30 in February. He did look like one of the top pitchers in the major leagues once. But over the last five years, he has mostly been injured or ineffective.
In 2017 and 2018, he made 63 starts and threw 384 2/3 innings with an earned run average of 3.18. He kept 45.8% of balls in play on the ground, struck out 28.8% of batters he faced, and only 6.2% of them were walked. With that background, his moving out seemed imminent. Sevy’s fans have reacted in the most endearing way to this news.
Here’s What The Fans Had To Say
The Dominican was definitely a loved member of the Yankees family. However, his performance has led the team to move on. But the fans leave no moment to acknowledge his contribution. Social media is flooded with well wishes and messages of gratitude for the pitcher for his 8 year career in the Bronx. Ranging from being forever thankful to congratulating the home grown ace, the fans said it all.
Twitter found one of the most sincere messages.
Sevy left it all out there for our Yankees

Some fans wished him well for the future despite his injuries, calling him a “DAWG”.
Sevy likes NYC which you can’t say for a lot of modern baseball players/athletes
I will root for him. A good year and he’s a $100 mill type player. A bad/injury year and he’s year to year as he goes.
Root for this guy. A DAWG https://t.co/3Qba96ayhH
