Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has been a real sensation over the past couple of seasons. The World No. 5 player has been serially winning tournaments in recent times. These splendid performances have helped him improve his ranking considerably over the past 12 months.

Recently, Rublev spoke on an interesting topic. He spoke on something new that has been happening on the scenes, hiring mental coaches who help train an athlete which helps them concentrate better. However, the Russian tennis player has an interesting opinion on this subject.

 The 24-year-old player stated, “By no means against psychologists. I just don’t see the need for it. For me, this is quite simple, and it was already said by everyone many years ago – what and how. Hire any psychologist in tennis, the only question is you – do you want to change something?” On the other hand, his friend and contemporary, Medvedev takes the help of an expert. 

Andrey Rublev has an interesting take on how to solve an internal issue

The Russian feels that he is okay with not having a mental expert. As long as an individual is willing to change, there won’t be a difference in the approach. Although, Andrey felt that players who faced issues off the court are the ones should seek counselling or help. He believed that issues battled off the court, if ignored, can intervene with in-court performance, and hence should be prioritised and looked into, for reasons more than just this. 

The player further added, “If yes, then you will, and if you don’t want to yourself, then you will not change this, despite a team of the best coaches and psychologists. Because there are no secrets, everything has already been said by all great athletes. It seems to me that this is more needed by players with problems in the family, with friends, which they transfer to the court.”
