Andy Murray Earns a Spot in the Main Draw of French Open 2020

Andy Murray has earned a spot for the French Open 2020. Originally scheduled in May, the Grand Slam was postponed to October because of the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, the tournament officials announced the wildcard entries to this year’s French Open.
Former World No.1 and 2016 Roland Garros finalist, Andy Murray, was handed a wildcard entry. Murray was also given a wildcard entry to the US Open 2020, where he lost in the second round to Félix Auger-Aliassime.
The three-time Grand Slam champion will play at the French Open for the first time since 2017. Notably, he had missed the tour for two years because of a hip injury.

Andy Murray not the only one to get wildcard
On the women’s side, Eugenie Bouchard was given a wildcard entry to the clay-court tournament. The 2014 semi-finalist reached the final of the Istanbul Open last week and entered the Top-200 in rankings after a successful run.

Tsvetana Pironkova, who had a sensational run at the US Open 2020, has also received a wildcard entry to Roland Garros. Pironkova was playing her first tournament since the 2017 Wimbledon after a three-year maternity break. The Bulgarian reached the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows. Interestingly, she last played at the French Open in 2017, where she lost in the second round.
Apart from that, many French players like Harold Mayot, Hugo Gaston, and Quentin Halyshave received a wildcard on the men’s side. Whereas, women’s players like Elsa Jacquemot, Chloe Paquet, and Diane Parry have also earned a wildcard.
