Serbian machine Novak Djokovic was the first person to create a revolt and form the PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association). He did this along with Vasek Pospisil, and John Isner joined them. The main idea of creating such an organization was to express the opinion of the lesser privileged players.
Recently, American tennis player Reilly Opelka spoke on this issue. He voiced his opinion on supporting the matter put forward. There have been instances where a player has been approached to spot fix during a match, and these issues relating to gambling have to be eradicated from the sport.
Opelka said, “I would really like to see a push for that [regulating gambling]. That solves so many problems. If you regulate the gambling—which is going to happen no matter what—and they make a lot of money. I know, because every time I lose, I get all these death threats. And tennis is a very bet-upon sport and it goes on all year. Gambling companies, I’m sure they want write-offs and want to throw money into it.”

The lesser-known players require player representation, and that is one of the reasons Novak wants the PTPA instilled. Many a time, players belonging to these categories have suffered due to not having adequate resources at their disposal. Djokovic hopes they can be a positive addition and work together with the ATP. The 6ft 11inches American stated, “I think Vasek’s done a great job of organizing everything and doing all the dirty work that I personally don’t know how to do. When he was injured he had the time to do it. I hate phone calls back-to-back all day long. He did so much dirty work for free. Because again, for one reason: He just cared a lot about [tennis].”
