Novak Djokovic’s ambitions of retaining the Italian Open came to an end in the quarterfinal stage. The World No. 1 bowed out of the tournament after losing to Dane Holger Rune. All in all, the tournament proved to be a disappointing outing for Djokovic. More worryingly for Djokovic, he failed to regulate his temper on multiple occasions. He will be hoping that he steers clear of his Italian Open troubles once the French Open gets going. For now, though, the Serb will be looking forward to a brief break from tennis, as he prepares for an appearance in an upcoming soccer match.

On May 23, Djokovic will be one of several high-profile names to participate in the World Stars Football Match. The match, which will take place in Monaco’s famous Stade Louis II, will also feature a prominent F1 star.

The World Stars Football Match will mark the beginning of the countdown to the Monaco Grand Prix. It will see the Children MC team squaring off against the All Stars Drivers team. Djokovic will appear for the Children MC team.

Djokovic’s list of illustrious teammates will consist of Lisa Battaglia, the jet-ski world champion, and former Italian soccer pro Flavio Roma. Greg Campi, Sebastien Perez, and Claude Puel are some of the other prominent figures who will feature in the Children MC team.

World Stars Football Match organizer thanks everyone who has made the match an annual affair

The Children MC team’s President, Mauro Serra, was thankful to all the sponsors, the public, the celebrities, the players, and the 285 members for making the match a yearly spectacle. Serra said, “Thanks to them and their help, we can continue our sporting and charitable events in order to raise funds and help disadvantaged children.”

For Djokovic, the match offers an opportunity to rejuvenate his mind ahead of the French Open. Throughout the Italian Open, Djokovic was critical of the court conditions. He was also furious at Briton Cameron Norrie after he was struck by a ball. Last but not least, he lashed out at the chair umpire during his loss to Holger Rune.
