Cameron Norrie has had a dream run so far at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. He produced his best showing at a Grand Slam tournament, reaching the semi-finals of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. However, he went down fighting against the former world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the last-four clash. In a match lasting just over two and a half hours, Djokovic got the better of Norrie in four sets, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

During Norrie’s childhood days, he lived with his family in South Africa. However, the family relocated to New Zealand when Norrie was three-years-old. Recently, his father gave an account of why they moved to New Zealand from South Africa.

During an interview, Cameron Norrie’s father, David, recounted the horrific incident that led them to relocate to New Zealand. He said, “We lived in a complex with barbed wire electric fencing, so it was relatively secure. But there was an automated gate as you drove up. One night our neighbor was the victim of a carjacking. He had a gun put to his head and there was a baby in the back of the car.”

Further, he added, “We decided at that point that this was not the place to bring up kids and started making plans to emigrate. We had lots of friends who had been burgled. Moving to somewhere like New Zealand, we looked at the change in lifestyle, which was very active. It was one of the best decisions we made in terms of space and where to bring up a family. If we had stayed in South Africa I guess things might have worked out differently.”
