Journalists in any sport are the ones who relay information from the players to the fans. The post-match pressers are one place where journalists get important information from players. However, not all questions come from the most experienced and well-mannered journalists. Daniil Medvedev’s grand slam victories thrown into question
Medvedev faced Alex De Minaur in the quarterfinal of the Canadian Open and lost after a tough match. Disappointed after the loss, he sat for the post-match presser. But Medvedev’s feelings after the loss were about to be overshadowed by a different thought. The Russian player faced a journalist who asked him a question which only confused him and the ones watching the conference.
The question that came Medvedev’s way was, “It’s not related to the game, the question, but you have been really close to it, but you’re missing something to win a grand slam, to make this final step. Thank you.”

Considering that the current rank 3 has one grand slam title to his name, Medvedev replied with a question of his own. “A grand slam you’re talking about?” With clarification, the reporter said, “Yeah. Grand slam“. Even more puzzled now, the Russian once again questioned, “Well, you mean — when?“

Tennis journalists with bizarre questions
Many players on tour have faced reporters in pressers who can’t seem to formulate the right questions. Just recently, a reporter congratulated Paula Badosa on her victory at Wimbledon after a match she forfeited due to injury. Elena Rybakina was posed with a bizarre question after her 2022 Wimbledon victory when she was asked if she felt Russian, when in fact, she changed her nationality to Kazakhstan.

Additionally, Aryna Sabalenka was posed with a sexist question when asked if she felt a similar heritage to Serena Williams because both are able to serve ‘like a man’. These are just a few examples of reporters asking mind-boggling questions to players. While it doesn’t happen quite often, such questions will keep fans entertained, and the players irritated.
