Carlos Alcaraz Gets a Special Interest From Roger Federer and Laver Cup After His Madrid Open Victory

Carlos Alcaraz has taken the 2022 season by storm. After winning his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open, the Spaniard backed it up by lifting the Madrid Open title. He defeated Alexander Zverev in the summit clash to continue his dream run this season. Earlier in the tournament, the 19-year-old had knocked out Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic en route to the finals.

As Alcaraz lifted his fourth title this year, the tennis fraternity praised him for his stupendous effort. Additionally, many fellow players on the tour congratulated Alcaraz on his impressive feat. Recently, Alcaraz received a massive honor from the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer.

Roger Federer wants Carlos Alcaraz to play in the Laver Cup

Federer’s management company is one of the partners of the Laver Cup and organizes the prestigious event. The tournament format is based on the Ryder Cup in golf, which is a competition between the best golf players in the United States against the best golf players from Europe. However, in the Laver Cup, Team Europe plays against Team World.

Carlos Alcaraz’s brilliant performances this year haven’t gone unnoticed, and Federer wants him to represent Team Europe in the Laver Cup. Earlier, Federer and Nadal had already confirmed their presence at the tournament.

Further, the tournament is scheduled from 23- 25 September 2022 and will take place at the O2 Arena in London.

Team Europe’s domination in the Laver Cup

In the four editions of the Laver Cup held thus far, Team Europe has defeated Team World on all four occasions. The tournament has been held every year except in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Further, the inaugural edition saw Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal teaming up to play doubles. The duo defeated Sam Querrey and Jack Sock in a mouth-watering contest.
