If asked to name who is the next big thing in the tennis world after the ‘Big Three’, almost 5 out of 10 will name the current world number two, Carlos Alcaraz. And why not? Alcaraz became the first teenager in the Open Era to top the men’s singles rankings at 19 years 4 months and 6 days old. His incredible performances have attracted several brands across the globe, and it seems like he will not stop at anything short of being a global athlete.

Carlos Alcaraz achieved great heights at a very young age. He’s just 20, and things look like he may soon overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the richest tennis player in the world. And Nike may well help him achieve his goals off the court.

The two-time Grand Slam champion who made his debut in 2018 has an estimated worth of $15 M as of 2024. However, his association with Nike dates back to 2015. But in 2020, he signed a $1M deal with the sports brand which will run until 2025.

He left Lotto at the age of 16 after Nike came knocking on his door when he was only 17. Now Alcaraz is looking forward to renewing his partnership with the North American brand as soon as the current deal crosses its deadline. And, if things go right, it’s predicted that the 20-year-old Spaniard can well become the highest-paid player in the history of the racket sport. He may well surpass the $10M received by Roger Federer (Uniqlo) and Nadal’s Nike deal.

Nike is currently also considering Alcaraz’s very own special apparel line. However, last year the renowned sports brand was heavily mocked by Novak Djokovic fans for their bold claim stating “The Alcaraz Era is upon us.” The Serbian ended the year clinching 3 out of 4 major titles.

And what’s more surprising was since that Nike ad campaign Djokovic had an 18-game unbeaten run winning three titles altogether. But despite the trolling faced by Nike and Alcaraz, there is a significant portion of the fans who believe the 20YO can easily surpass Nadal’s and Federer’s monetary achievements in the near future. Let’s have a look at two of the most historic deals surrounding these two tennis legends.

Federer’s whooping $300 million deal with Uniqlo

Roger Federer bid farewell to tennis almost two years ago. But his craze among the fans is the same as what it was before. Taking count of his reach, several brands line up at his door to get his signature. Uniqlo, a Japanese clothing apparel company stands right at the front.

The Swiss Maestro joined hands with Uniqlo in 2018 after ending his long-standing partnership with Nike. He signed a staggering $300 M sponsorship deal with the apparel brand for 10 years. It means he’ll earn $30M annually even after his retirement and that is 3 times more than what Nike was paying him annually. During an interview after signing this mega deal, Federer said, he wants to create “coolest things” in partnership with Uniqlo.
