The coronavirus pandemic has caused major confusion in the ATP calendar. Though tennis activities have now resumed, a lot of tournaments are pulling out of contention. But, the Sofia Open will take place and we will get to see French Open semi-finalist Diego Schwartzman compete in Bulgaria this year!

The ATP 250 event doesn’t boast a long history, as it was only added to the calendar in 2016. This year’s edition has been postponed with the new dates being November 8-14. It is held in the Bulgarian capital, and hence the name Sofia Open. 

The player participation for this year remained undisclosed for a long time due to the unpredictable situation. However, we now have a list of top athletes who’ll be kneen on winning the ATP 250 title in Bulgaria. 

So far, 20 confirmed names will be marking their presence at the 2020 Sofia Open. Here are a few top athletes from the list: Diego Schwartzman, Gael Monfils, Denis Shapovalov, Kei Nishikori, and Roberto Bautista Agut. 

There are also other top names who are confirmed to be participating in Bulgaria this year. Former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic and 20-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime will also take part in the event. 

The Bulgarian tournament is a massive chance for Schwartzman to clinch an ATP title. The 28-year-old is in top form at the moment from what we’ve witnessed from his display at the French Open.

We are undoubtedly lucky to be witnessing an extraordinary era in tennis. The ‘Big 3’ as they are termed, have been dominating the circuit for more than a decade. Diego Schwartzman just considers himself lucky to have competed alongside them. 

Moreover, the Argentine described how their different styles contribute to the beauty of the rivalry.  “I think the most beautiful thing it’s for sure how different these guys are. So that’s amazing. For me is the best part to play with these guys.” Schwartzman mentioned.
