Argentine World No. 9 Diego Schwartzman made history after winning the Argentine Open. To win, he defeated Franciso Cerundolo 6-1, 6-2 in 81 minutes.
Also, there had been no Argentine winning in Bueno Aires in the last decade. David Nalbandian was the last person to claim victory at home against compatriot Jose Acasuso in 2008.
Moreover, the 28-year-old did not give away his set throughout the tournament. His modifications in his game are finally starting to produce results as well.

Diego Schwartzman is close to his family, and to win a title in front of them is incomparable. Also, as a professional tennis player, he is always on the road.
The Argentine said, “It was an emotional week. [It was] very different because in the other weeks you don’t have all your family and friends with you, the people who never see you on the court.”

Furthermore, the Buenos Aries native recalled that he had lost in the final in the same tournament two years back. Overall, it was the second time Diego finished runner-up in Argentine.
That is what makes the title all the more special for him. Additionally, when he learned that he had not dropped a set throughout the tournament, Diego was surprised himself.
He said, “That is a very weird stat about my serve. I think I served really well all the matches and I felt very good on the court.”
To sum up, the Argentine explained what made him the winner against equally passionate opponents.
“[I was playing] aggressive, doing good defence and not many mistakes, and every match felt better and better. I think that’s why I won the title,” Schwartzman concluded.

Which tournament will Diego Schwartzman play next?

Schwartzman will travel next to the United States to compete for the first Masters 1000 tournament, the Miami Open 2021.
But before that, he will have enough time to recover and prepare for the next challenge. Until now, the Argentine has only won four ATP titles in four different years.
