‘GET NEW UMPIRES’ – Nick Kyrgios Yells at the ATP Following His Fourth-Round Loss at Miami Open 2022

Apart from fiery shots and the on-court antics, one more aspect that isn’t new from Nick Kyrgios, is his on-court rants. The Australian is highly vocal about his disagreements during the match as well as off-court. A similar incident took place during his 4th round match in Miami; Kyrgios got into a banter with the chair umpire, Carlos Bernardes.

However, it didn’t seem to go in favor of Kyrgios. The Australian first faced a point penalty and then a game penalty. The match ended with Jannik Sinner winning the match in straight sets. During his post-match conference, Nick Kyrgios opened up on his argument with the umpire.

During the first set tie-breaker, Nick received a point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. As per the chair umpire Carlos, Nick was allegedly talking to Frances Tiafoe’s father, who was sitting in the stands. However, that wasn’t all. It was the end of the first set that caught the maximum attention. At the end of the first set tiebreaker, Kyrgios indulged in a massive argument with Carlos, following which he broke his racquet near his player bench. The act didn’t go well with Carlos, as he went further to give Kyrgios a game penalty.

Following the incident, during the press conference, Kyrgios was asked whether he fears any repercussions from the ATP. Taking the question with confidence, Nick asserted that he doesn’t care and doesn’t understand why the ATP would fine him. He said, “I know I’m a good person, like I don’t really care, but I don’t understand what could you possibly fine me for today?”

Even though Nick had priorly blasted the chair umpire on court, his frustration didn’t seem to end. During the press conference, he further went on, criticizing the ATP.

“That’s the thing. He’s going to get nothing. He’s not even going to get a slap on the wrist for his dreadful umpiring performance today. Like he was horrendous,” he said. “The ATP won’t do anything about him. There will be no bad like articles on him. He will just show up in the next event, and everyone just forgets how bad that was today from him,” he added.

Disappointed by the whole situation, Kyrgios ended by expressing his concern over the hatred he and his loved ones would receive. He ended his statement by giving a strong remark about the Association of Tennis Professionals.

“I will have to deal with the negativity, I will have to deal with the bad comments, my girlfriend has to deal with the bad comments, my team has to deal with the bad comments. And ATP doesn’t give a f***.”

Kyrgios takes out the frustration on social media

Even though Kyrgios had expressed his frustration on the court, as well as in the press conference, it didn’t seem to be enough for him. The 26-year-old is one of the most active social media users among all the players. He usually uploads content related to his game, his personal life, and his girlfriend.

However, yesterday was a bit different. Yesterday, post the match, Kyrgios took to his Instagram, uploading a story. The story was a reshare of Tennis TV’s post in which they showed the outrageous acts of Kyrgios.

Sharing the post in his story, Kyrgios wrote a strong caption, criticizing the whole situation, and appealing to get new umpires on board. The caption read, “Some of the circus that was today. Great umpiring and court control at a masters 1000. All I said to get a point penalty was that my friend could do the job of the umpire. He said his feelings got hurt. Hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line. Get new umpires.”

On the tournament front, Kyrgios’s strong run came to an end in Miami after suffering a fourth-round defeat to Jannik Sinner.
