22-year-old Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has been a sensation at Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco this week. After defeating Taylor Fritz in a three-set thriller, Fokina is just two matches away from claiming his maiden Masters 1000 title. In his Round-of-32 clash, he caused the upset of the tournament when he knocked out Novak Djokovic in his comeback match in three sets. He showed that the victory over the Serb wasn’t a fluke and is now in the semifinals in Principality. Recently, the Spaniard talked about his tennis idol, and the name might surprise you.

In a recent interview, the Monte Carlo Open semi-finalist, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, spoke about watching Roger Federer while growing up. Also, he believes that his personality in a way matches that of Federer’s.
When asked about the player he looked up to as a child, the Spaniard said, “Federer, that’s it. I want to talk with him one day because his personality was like, I think more or less like mine. He was breaking everything like, mad every time and one day, he changed his mind and he was playing like the best one.”

Davidovich Fokina is aiming for his maiden Masters 1000 title
Undoubtedly, clay is the favorite surface for the 46-ranked ATP player from Spain. So far in Monaco, he beat some big names en route to his semi-final journey in Principality. After beating Novak in the second round, he beat the recently crowned Marrakech champion, David Goffin, in the third round. In the quarter-final, he recorded a come-from-behind victory over the recent Indian Wells champion, Taylor Fritz.

In his first-ever Masters 1000 semi-final, he will lock horns against Grigor Dimitrov on Saturday. Dimitrov beat Hubert Hurkacz in a scintillating match to book a spot in the last four.
