18-year-old Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, rose to the limelight after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round at the US Open 2021. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and has gone from strength to strength. Recently, he won the Miami Open after beating Casper Ruud in the final. Incidentally, this was his first big trophy and also the first Masters 1000 title. Meanwhile, former Spanish tennis player Alex Corretja has some high praises for the young Spaniard after his spectacular win in Miami.

Former French Open finalist, Alex Corretja, recently spoke with Eurosport and praised Alcaraz for his unbelievable display on the tennis court. According to the former player, Alcaraz will become a great player in the future.

“What he’s been just doing is nearly a miracle because he’s been improving so much. He was like 300 in the world couple of years ago. Last year he was 100 and now he’s 11. So, his jump is just huge. It’s just very surprising. And even if you see that he has got great talent and great determination to be aggressive and to play well, the way he’s playing, not only on clay but on hard courts and the consistency he’s having is impressing me so much,” Corretja spoke about Alcaraz. 

“Because he played in Rio, he won. He came to Davis Cup on clay and then he flew over, played semi-finals in Indian Wells and now winning Miami. This is something big, and this is something very special and this is something that we understand, that we need to look very looking forward because he’s gonna be someone unbelievable in the present and of course in the future,” he further added. 

Can Alcaraz continue his great run of form to win Monte Carlo Masters?

The 18-year-old gained five spots in the ATP rankings following his memorable run in Miami. He is currently ranked 11th, achieving a career-high ranking after his efforts at the ‘Sunshine Double’.  Following his maiden ATP 500 tournament win in Rio, Alcaraz reached the semifinals at the Indian Wells Masters, and then took a step further to win the Miami Open. After clinching the Miami title, the Spaniard should be hoping to continue his great run of form to triumph at Monte Carlo Masters as well, as he is gearing up to begin his campaign on clay.

However, winning the tournament will not be an easy task. With the latest draw for the Monte Carlo already out, he could potentially face the World No.1, Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-final.
