According to a post by ‘Olly Tennis,’ the one-time Grand Slam champion had to take the help of an inhaler. After being one set down, the doctor rushed to Medvedev’s aid, and the two discussed the situation.

The Australian won the first set, 2-6, and was leading the second. Medvedev had considerable time to turn the match towards him. He recovered from the setback and won the next three sets. With this win, Medvedev has also secured his spot at the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals—the third player to qualify after Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

While Medvedev was able to overcome the weather conditions and win the match, Ons Jabeur also faced a similar situation.

Ons Jabeur fell prey to the fierce New York humidity

The Wimbledon Championships finalist started her Flushing Meadows run with a medical emergency. During her first round against Camila Osorio, the Tunisian experienced breathlessness, due to which her blood pressure had to be monitored. Jabeur has a history of asthma, and it took her time to adjust to the humid weather. She managed to defeat Osorio, 7-5, 7-6 (4).

Similarly, while playing against Qinwen Zheng, Jabeur made a series of errors. She also faced some breathing issues. This gave Zheng an edge over the former World No.2, who was already struggling at that point.
