Everyone in the tennis fraternity is waiting with bated breath for the return of the Serbian Maestro Novak Djokovic. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been on and off the tour for quite some time now owing to his vaccination stance. But, given how many countries are reviewing their vaccine mandates, things are looking up for him now.

The World No. 1 is looking to start his clay campaign for 2022 as he prepares for the Monte Carlo Masters. His first match will be against the hard-hitting Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on the 12th of April.

He recently opened up about how it has been tough for him to reconcile with not having match practice in spite of being in tip-top shape and in good health. “I miss competition. I still feel motivation to be on the tour and compete with young guys and try to challenge for the biggest titles. Last 4-5 months have been really challenging for me mentally and emotionally, but I will try to leave all of that behind and move on,” Novak Djokovic said.

Will Novak Djokovic be able to defend his French Open this year?

Novak Djokovic has been at the center stage of all drama in the tennis world since the Australian Open 2022. The Serb had to go through a lengthy visa battle and eventually, he could not defend his title at the tournament. Because of USA’s vaccine mandate, Djokovic also could not participate in any of the tournaments in the US hard court swing. While he did play at the Dubai Tennis Championships, he lost to Jiri Vesely, in the quarterfinals, after a performance that lacked his usual spark.

That he is one of the best players in the history of the sport is known to the entire world. But so many months without proper match practice might just take a toll on the way Djokovic can perform at the upcoming clay tournaments. But, given how skilled he is, experts are certain that the Serb will find his rhythm soon and manage to be one of the biggest threats to anyone playing against him.
