Carlos Alcaraz is living his dream. The Spaniard claimed the biggest title of his career earlier today. The 18-year-old defeated Casper Ruud in the summit clash of the Miami Open to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title. Moreover, it had been a memorable tournament for the Next-Gen star, defeating the likes of Marin Cilic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Hubert Hurkacz apart from Casper Ruud en route to the title.

Alcaraz has been in scintillating form this season. Prior to the Miami Masters title, he had won the ATP 500 Rio Open title. His Miami Open win has enabled him to rise 5 spots in the ATP rankings. Alcaraz’s current ranking sees him 11th best in the world.

Following the title victory in Miami, the Spanish teenager had an emotional embrace with his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. The latter had returned to Miami following the passing away of his father. After the match, Alcaraz had kind words for his coach.

During a post-match interview after his finals victory over Casper Ruud, the interviewer asked the Spaniard what did it mean to have Juan Carlos Ferrero present in the final. He said, “It’s amazing. It’s amazing to have Juan Carlos here with me. I had talked with him every day and it was a surprise, I didn’t know he came here, I didn’t know anything and was a big surprise for me and of course, I am really happy with it. I am really happy to have Juan Carlos with me. My first Masters 1000 title with him in the box is pretty special.”

Juan Carlos Ferrero has played a massive role in Alcaraz’s rise. Their partnership began when the latter was just 15 years old. His coach had not been with him for the Miami Open due to his father’s death before the tournament. However, he surprised Alcaraz after flying to Miami for the summit clash.
