With this title, Daniil Medvedev has dethroned Rafael Nadal from the No. 2 spot in the ATP rankings. Since 2005, a player other than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Andy Murray has managed to be in the top two positions.

In a recent video, Medvedev thanked his fans in the US and recalled his epic 2019 US Open campaign. This was where he played his first Grand Slam final and the player hasn’t looked back ever since.

“Just wanted to let you know how happy I am on becoming No. 2 in the world. Especially, since it’s the first time after 2005 when somebody out of the Big 4 becomes No. 2. So, it’s a great achievement,” said Medvedev to his fans in the United States.

He also remembered how it all started for him at the US Open 2019 and described that major as the biggest result in his tennis career so far.

“I’m always remembering the US Open swing, 2019, my biggest result so far. My first big result in a Grand Slam. With a, for sure, amazing story with the crowd which ended really well, I think,” added the Australian Open 2021 runner-up.

“Looking forward to coming back to the US Open”- Daniil Medvedev
