The recent revelations from the tennis docuseries ‘Break Point’ has caused a lot of controversy in the tennis fraternity. Unsurprisingly, the two players in the middle of the controversy were Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios. Tsitsipas’ comments on Kyrgios received a lot of backlash. The Greek accused the Aussie of bringing an ‘NBA’ attitude to tennis which did not sound quite right.

More so, the choice of Tsitsipas’ words that included ‘uneducated’ raised plenty of questions. He also said that tennis is supposed to be a gentleman’s game. The world number 5 was accused of elitism and racism for which he came up with an apology and attempted to clear the misunderstanding. However, Kyrgios’ reply was rather shocking.

Nick Kyrgios sympathizes with Tsitsipas

Kyrgios and Tsitsipas have never gotten along on the court. Their post-match handshakes have always been cold, and things have often gotten ugly during their matches. So, Kyrgios showing support towards Tsitsipas does come off as a shock. The Aussie quoted his apology and said, “It was a very heated battle sometimes as players we go into these press conferences without digesting the match…. We’ve had some crazy battles and I know deep down you like my brand of tennis we are all good @steftsitsipas

This was not the first instance where Tsitsipas and Kyrgios supported each other. The Greek had some positive words to say for his Aussie rival back in 2021, and Kyrgios responded to Tsitsipas very warmly. But where did this take place?

Tsitsipas praises Kyrgios during a team event

Heading back to Laver Cup, 2021, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios were competing against each other. After registering a straight-set win over the Aussie, Tsitsipas backed his talent and ability. He said, “He is someone, with not much practice or preparation, he can come out and play one of his best tennis, due to the enormous talent that he has as an athlete.” Overwhelmed by the words, Kyrgios thanked the Greek and used a heart emoticon along with it.
