It was none other than the Hall of Famer, Boris Becker, who once became a part of the 22 singles Grand Slam champion’s coaching team.

Speaking about his collaboration with the German tennis legend, Djokovic recently opened up about his desire to surpass Roger Federer. Being the number 1 ranked player was always been his sole objective which he set out to accomplish only with Becker.

The recently released Apple TV documentary based on the bitter-sweet journey of Boris Becker has already captivated a slew of tennis fans. It also features some of the other tennis greats like John McEnroe and Novak Djokovic as they were also part of the German tennis legend’s journey. In 2013, the Serbian tennis player consulted the Hall of Famer to join his team as a coach.

During that era, Roger Federer was a dominating figure as he was at the top of the ATP rankings and Grand Slam titles tally. Djokovic, on the other hand, was going through an adverse phase as he was not able to outrank the Swiss tennis legend. Notably, the 22 singles Grand Slam champion had a long conversation with Becker regarding his off-court activities and other distractions.

Reminiscing about that talk in the documentary movie, Djokovic said, “He asked me, ‘What do you want from tennis? Do you have clarity of your goals?'”

The 35-year-old tennis legend answered by revealing his sole objective of making his mark on the sport’s history. In order to reach those unprecedented heights, Djokovic had to outrank the former Swiss tennis player who was a resounding figure back then. The Serb just wanted Boris Becker to accompany him on his quest to become the best player on the men’s tour.
