However, the recently retired TV presenter, Sue Barker, inadvertently expressed her opinion on the ‘GOAT’ debate during an interview at the BT Sport Action Woman Awards 2022. Barker stated, “And then I looked over at Roger because, well, let’s face it why wouldn’t you?” 

She went on to talk about her prior interviews with the Swiss Maestro. During those interviews, Barker used to ask Federer about ‘the best moment’ of his illustrious tennis journey. She further revealed that retired Swiss tennis legend answered her by saying that “Winning Wimbledon. it’s what I dreamed of – but you made me cry.”

Barker further stated, “I looked at him and thought I’m not going to do a Roger, I can’t walk away from Wimbledon blubbing.”

During the interview, the former British tennis player also talked about the American tennis legend, Billie Jean King. Barker said that she was hugely inspired by King when she won the ‘Battle of the Sexes’. During that historical match, the 12-time singles Grand Slam champion defeated the former No.1 ranked men’s player, Bobby Riggs.

As a result, Barker, who was massively inspired by King’s performance, decided to follow the path of becoming a tennis athlete. Later on, Barker stunned a plethora of fans when she won the French Open title in 1976. Barker also made her mark as a legendary TV presenter in addition to being a great tennis player.
