“Still a Little Tricky”: Roger Federer Admits He Needs to Improve His Defense After 2R Win Against Marin Cilic at French Open 2021

World No.8 Roger Federer recently exhibited some of his usual exceptional skills to win his second-round match at the French Open 2021. Facing Marin Cilic, the Swiss maestro played some amazing forehands and didn’t show any signs of trouble even after losing the second set. In the end, he enjoyed a comfortable victory over Cilic with a final scoreline of 6-2, 2-6, 7(7)-6(4), 6-2.
In the post-match interview, Federer admitted that his defense hasn’t been up to the mark in his last two performances at the French Open 2021. However, he also mentioned that his shots were cleaner, which is a good sign for him.
“My shots are cleaner, in my head. In defence, it’s still a little tricky, which is normal. But I know better how to move forward,” said Federer in the interview.

It is quite clear that even Federer knows that his defense is not that solid right now. However, he believes he can improve it as he stated that he knows what he needs to do in his next matches.

“So happy to reach the third round”- Roger Federer
It is after quite some time that Federer played four sets in a match. Thus, he looked quite cheerful after his victory and highlighted that he is really happy to move to the third round.

“I didn’t expect to get this high. I’m so so happy to reach the third round,” added the 20-time Grand Slam winner.
