“Still Passionate”: Rafael Nadal Hopeful of Replicating His 2009 Campaign at Australian Open 2021

World No.2 Rafael Nadal got off to a wonderful start ahead of the Australian Open 2021. Just before the Grand Slam, he defeated World No.3 Dominic Thiem in straight sets in an exhibition match in Adelaide. The final scoreline of the match was 7-5, 6-4.
Rafael Nadal hasn’t won the Australian Open title since 2009 despite playing four finals at the Slam after that. In the post-match interview, he revealed that he is still passionate about winning another Australian Open title. He also mentioned that he was super happy right now and was enjoying every single moment.
“I won there [Australian Open] in 2009… I think almost everyone forgets about that! But I keep trying hard… I’m still passionate for the sport. I never dreamed about being where I am. Super happy, enjoying every single moment I’m able to keep competing,” said a cheerful Nadal.

With this start and his current form, Rafa will certainly be starting as one of the favorites at the Grand Slam. He’ll surely try to capitalize and win his 21st Grand Slam title in Melbourne this year.

Even though the coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, Nadal believes that Australia has successfully managed to control the virus to a great extent. He even said that the nation had set an example in front of the entire world.
“I think Australia is a very positive example of how to control the virus,” concluded the Spaniard.
Nadal will begin his 2021 campaign soon at the ATP Cup 2021. After that, he’ll advance to the Australian Open 2021 where he’ll be eyeing his second Australian Open title. Will Rafa be able to win the major in Melbourne this year and move ahead of Roger Federer in the Grand Slam tally?
