Former American tennis star John McEnroe was one of the fiercest characters on the tennis court. The 63-year-old was a brilliant tennis player with seven Grand Slam titles to his name. After an accomplished playing career, the American has donned the commentator’s hat. He also is one of the most loved tennis analysts and commentators today.

But comparing his two professions, is he a better commentator than he was a player? A fan told him so and McEnroe’s reaction to it was hilarious.

McEnroe reacts to the weird comparison

John McEnroe appeared in a podcast recently where he discussed various aspects of his life and career. Speaking about his commentary, he recalled when someone compared his game and commentary, saying the American has done better as a commentator. Here’s how McEnroe replied.

“I remember people saying to me, hey you know you are a better commentator than you are a player. I am like, wait a minute, don’t give me that BS, that’s a felony that’s b******t, okay,” he said.

Later, the 63-year-old realized that since he was done with his playing career, he should take it as a compliment.

“Then I realized it was actually a great compliment because I was a pretty good player so If am good as a commentator, take it as a compliment for god’s sake,” he added.

While we can definitely see how good he is doing as a commentator, he doesn’t need to prove to anyone how good he was during his playing days, as the record speaks for itself.

Tennis helped John McEnroe make friends

For a lively character like McEnroe, it is hard for anyone to believe that he had a lonely childhood. In an interview, the American revealed it was hard making friends for him.

Back in his teenage days, McEnroe used to commute a long way to school, as a result of which he could not bond with his neither his school nor his local friends.

However, the situation changed when he started playing professional tennis. Playing tennis helped him make good friends, especially when playing as a team.
