Later on, the 26-year-old revealed what his parents did while he stamped his name in the desert.
After dropping the first set, Norrie found his shots and took the match’s control from his opponent, Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili. He then went on to defeat him 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Naturally, out of curiosity, the 26-year-old inquired what they did if not watch his biggest final. “I was like, so what did you guys do when I was playing?” Norrie continued. “They said when you lost the first set, we had to go out and walk the dogs, we were so nervous, we didn’t know what to do, so they re-watched it knowing the result so they could relax.”
Indeed, sometimes watching a final can make one more nervous than playing in one. But later on, Norrie added that they were both happy and his mother was in tears. He also mentioned that it was “so special” to speak to them after getting the title.
