‘What Novak Would Do?’: Daniil Medvedev Takes Inspiration From Novak Djokovic at Australian Open 2022

World No.2 Daniil Medvedev and 9th seed Felix Auger Aliassime gave us probably the best match of the tournament so far. Today, we saw why Daniil Medvedev is one of the best players in the world right now. The way the Russian came back in the match after going 2 sets down was truly remarkable. 

Both players gave their absolute best in the match to outclass one another. After winning the first two sets, many thought Felix will win this match easily. However, Medvedev fought back with sheer passion and spirit. Also, this is the first time anyone won a match after going two sets down in this edition of the tournament.

Daniil Medvedev took inspiration from Novak Djokovic

At the beginning of the match, Felix Auger Aliassime was playing some unbelievable tennis. Daniil Medvedev didn’t know what to do against the Canadian’s powerful groundstrokes. Felix was also serving incredibly well throughout the match, as he hit more aces than Medvedev in the match.

Honestly, Felix didn’t do much wrong in the match, playing some of the best tennis of his career. However, the resolve from Medvedev surpassed everything. After 4 hours and 42 minutes of incredible tennis, Daniil finally won the match by 6-7,3-6, 7-6,7-5,6-4.

But after the match, Daniil revealed that after going two sets down, he took inspiration from Novak Djokovic, which saw some boos from the crowd. The Russian said, “I don’t know if people gonna like it but I told myself what Novak would do”.

After hearing the boos, Daniil mentioned the names of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and the crowd started cheering. 

Medvedev is looking for back-to-back Grand Slam titles

After winning the US Open last year, Daniil has become one of the biggest contenders to win a Grand Slam after Novak Djokovic. Given Novak’s absence, Daniil was the favorite to win the whole tournament, and he’s showing why.
