‘Absolutely Ridiculous’ – Coco Gauff’s Coach Laments Andrey Rublev’s Disqualification With a Fiery Response

Andrey Rublev is gaining much attention of late for all the wrong reasons. A hot-headed player on the court, Rublev often vents out his emotions while playing. Hours ago, one such incident occurred at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships which raised eyebrows of the tennis world. Amid this, Coco Gauff’s coach, Brad Gilbert, has made his stance clear on Rublev’s controversy.

Toward the end of his semifinal match against Alexander Bublik, Rublev was seen screaming in the face of a linesman. Additionally, he also smashed his racket hard onto the court. As a result, he was disqualified from the match. Here’s what Gilbert had to say about this situation.

Gilbert, a legendary coach who has coached the likes of Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, is currently plying his trade for Coco Gauff. He actively speaks about the trending topics in the tennis world. One such subject was Rublev’s disqualification at ATP Dubai. Explaining his position, Gilbert mentioned, “for the record i don’t condone what Rubles did to linesperson, even if didn’t swear at.”

He went on to add, “That becomes judgement call for umpire that’s 50-50 default, my beef absolutely ridiculous to not have electronic court in Dubai same issue with women’s week before.”

Rublev was also accused of using native foul language. It was identified by a Russian translator, who was present inside the stadium. As Rublev was defaulted, his opponent, Bublik, received an automatic entry into the final.

This is not the first time Rublev was accused of using foul language on the court. A few years back, he suffered a similar accusation during the Cincinnati Masters.

When Rublev denied using foul language

The Russian star teamed up with his compatriot, Karen Khachanov, at the 2021 Cincinnati Masters. The duo escaped a narrow first-round defeat. Along with it, Andrey Rublev also escaped punishment after being accused of using foul language in Russian.

During an interview, he said, “It’s centre court, it’s on tv, it might be a $1000 fine, I don’t want it because I haven’t said it.
